In a proactive effort to combat cervical cancer and promote public health, Pathfinder Champions, in collaboration with the Ward Coordinators of Hon. Dr. Princess Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, organized a well-attended HPV sensitization program on Thursday, 26th March 2026, in Ikenne Local Government Area.

The program, themed “Prevent HPV: It Starts with Sensitisation and Awareness of the HPV Vaccine,” focused on educating residents about Human Papillomavirus (HPV), the leading cause of cervical cancer, which remains the second most common cancer among women in Nigeria.

Participants from Ward 1 and Ward 2 turned out in large numbers, reflecting strong community interest in protecting the health of their children.

In her welcome address, Princess Otameh Kehinde highlighted the Ogun State Government’s commitment to preventive healthcare. She noted that the HPV vaccine is approved for children aged 9 to 14 and announced that 9-year-old girls in the state can currently receive the vaccine free at government health facilities.

Ambassador Adewale Bosede reassured participants that vaccines at government health centers are free and urged residents to report any illegal charges. She also addressed common misconceptions, emphasizing that the HPV vaccine is safe and does not affect fertility.

Mrs. Balogun Oluwakemi, Chairman of FAHIO Ogun State, encouraged parents and guardians to take full advantage of free immunization programs and ensure regular health check-ups for their children.

During the interactive session, concerns about vaccine access were addressed. Resource persons explained that due to limited supply, priority is currently given to girls aged 9–14. They also clarified that the vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women or individuals who are acutely ill. Vaccinated girls will receive a pink immunization card as proof.

Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative and commended Hon. Dr. Princess Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji for her continued commitment to community health and wellbeing.

Hon. Ayoola-Elegbeji was represented by her Liaison Officers, Media Aides, and Ward Coordinators, reaffirming her dedication to the wellbeing of Ikenne residents.

The program ended on a positive note, with attendees better informed and encouraged to take action toward protecting the next generation through timely vaccination.
