It was an honour and a profound privilege to attend the International Women's Day commemoration organised by the Ogun State Government through the Office of the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, held in the vibrant town of Ijebu-Ode.
The event brought together an inspiring gathering of Ogun women from all walks of life, creating an atmosphere filled with energy, unity, and a shared commitment to progress. I had the distinct privilege of joining Her Excellency, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, the First Lady of Ogun State, Her Excellency Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, alongside Southwest Zonal Woman Leader, other distinguished women across the state, and all 20 Local Government Women Leaders. Their presence reflected the collective strength and determination of women in Ogun State to drive meaningful change.
In my remarks, I was particularly moved to speak not only to the accomplished women present but also to the young girls, the future leaders watching and dreaming. Drawing from this year’s International Women's Day theme, “Give To Gain,” which promotes generosity, collaboration, and mutual upliftment, I spoke directly to every girl who may feel unseen or uncertain about her place in the world.
I reminded her, and indeed all of us, that when we give of ourselves through mentorship, support, education, advocacy, or simply by believing in one another, we all gain. We build stronger communities, unlock opportunities, and create a future where every woman and girl can thrive without limits.
I specially commend Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, for her outstanding leadership in organising this impactful event. Your vision brought together a powerful assembly of women and created a platform for meaningful dialogue that truly reflects the spirit of “Give To Gain.”
I also deeply appreciate His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, Governor of Ogun State, for his consistent inclusion of women at the highest levels of leadership and his administration’s sustained investment in women’s empowerment. Through initiatives such as the Nigeria for Women Project and the Oko'Owo Dapo scheme, your government continues to demonstrate that empowering women is essential to inclusive growth and sustainable development.
The atmosphere was vibrant, reflecting the resilience, grace, and strength of Ogun women. Moments like this reaffirm our collective commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable society.
To every woman and girl in Ogun State and beyond, your voice matters, your contributions are invaluable, and together, as we give, we gain in building a better future for all.
